City council interviews law firms

Hesperia's new city council put in a full day Friday, working from before 8 a.m. to after 5 p.m. interviewing representatives from six law firms hoping to win the contract to provide legal services to the city government.

The city's current law firm, Ontario-based Covington & Crowe, was among those interviewed by the council.

"Sam [Crowe's] been here eight years, and nothing's ever been questioned. So it was brought up that maybe we ought to look into other attorneys and see if we're getting the most bang for our buck," Councilman Ed Pack said Friday after the interviews.

The city council has not yet chosen which firm will represent the city.

"We directed [city] staff to do a cost analysis, and they should have something for us" at the next city council meeting on December 20, Mayor Rita Vogler said. "There wasn't much news, but it was very informative. ... All of them had specialties."
